Hello friends! Hope your week is going well. I have been having a great week and I am so so so happy to be back on my blog. Things got a very hectic, very fast but I am going to do my best to continue to be consistent because I do truly love writing on here. Something I had to quickly deal with when I decided to take a step back, was guilt. I was noticing that when I felt like I needed a break, I felt guilty. Guilty about not consistently working, guilty about not reading every night, and guilty when I didn’t workout daily. It took me a while to stop feeling bad about these things and to let myself relax, but I finally feel like I am in a place where I know how to handle it.
The one thing that helped me overcome this feeling, was to learn how to differentiate between EARNED and UNEARNED guilt. Let’s break it down.
EARNED GUILT: you did something that was against your morals and in turn, you feel guilty. For example, you did something to hurt someone’s feelings and now you feel guilty.
UNEARNED GUILT: feeling guilty due to things you can’t control. For example, you feel guilty for not being available to see a friend on the weekend even though you already had plans doing something else.
Once you can differentiate between the two, you can ask yourself when feeling guilty if you deserve to feel guilty or if you are feeling guilty due to a situation that is out of your control.
If you continue to feel guilty about anything and everything, it will start to take over your life and it can become real unhealthy, real quick. Taking a step back for your physical and mental health is one of the best things you can do for yourself so do not neglect your body and start being mindful of the signs your body is giving you!! You only have one body so treat it right and stop feeling bad when you start to take care of yourself! Self-care is fun so start doing it more often. You’ll love it, I promise.
Love, Zahné
